About Chemistry Department


Vision -

The vision of the Department of Chemistry is to provide a platform of nationally and internationally recognized model of education to the students, so that they can compete in and contribute to the ever-changing, technology-centered world of the 21st century. It is committed by Department of Chemistry to achieve this vision by providing a course of study for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the chemistry which includes curriculum, scholarship and service/engagement opportunities that are high-quality, innovative and intellectually challenging and employ state-of-the-art technologies.

Mission -

The mission of the Department of Chemistry, National Institute of Technology, Raipur, is to nurture the undergraduate and postgraduate students by providing them quality education in terms of classroom teaching, experimental laboratories training and research. The courses are designed in such a way that student will be able to utilize their applied chemistry knowledge to develop innovative environment benign technology for the welfare of society and nation.

Program Educational Objectives (P.E.O.’s)

  1. To provide a strong foundation for the scientific temperament development and prepare students to meet as per need of the technological challenges of the future.
  2. To encourage continued learning and professional development by providing the proper knowledge and stimulation in a setting to promotes personal growth.
  3. Applied chemistry educational program will become successful in their chosen career, whether it is in the practice of chemical science, in advanced studies of technology/engineering.
  4. To educate our students about environmental impact of all scientific and technology based activities going on to students and to draw their attention to solve the challenges related to sustainability of life on earth.
  5. To develop discipline, responsibility, morality and nationalism among students as main objectives of our educational program.

Program Outcome (P.O.’s)

Each student will develop:-
  1. The ability to apply knowledge of applied chemistry and environmental science to improve the existing technology in daily life and research.
  2. The ability to design experiments, and to interpret results for applications in different industries e.g. polymer industry, paint industry, cement industry, power generation, fuel and lubricant industry, water treatment plant, and environmental quantification and remediation.
  3. The ability to various chemical processes to meet specified objectives within realistic constraints.
  4. The ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team.
  5. The ability to identify, formulate, and solve the technology based problems by exploiting the applied chemistry and environmental science knowledge.
  6. The ability to communicate chemistry and environmental science knowledge in written, oral, and graphical forms prudently.
  7. A thorough understanding in applied chemistry and a working knowledge of chemical process safety, biochemical engineering, advanced chemistry and material science, depending on their individual educational goals.
  8. An education that is supportive of a broad awareness of the diversity in scientific and social community.
